Shandon Herring is a Member of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Practice Group at JTH. Shandon represents corporations, universities, and start-ups in acquiring and enforcing intellectual property rights in the U.S. and around the world. Shandon prepares and prosecutes patent applications in technology areas such as mobile game applications, virtual reality (VR) systems, blockchain applications, Internet of things (IoT), software as a service (SaaS), database management systems, computer networking, cloud networking, artificial intelligence, computer vision, medical devices, and computer storage systems.

Shandon has over 14 years of experience in practicing before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Shandon provides client counseling in the strategic development of patent portfolios, patent licensing and transactions, pre-litigation investigations, and responding to and resolving defensive matters. Shandon counsels clients regarding infringement/non-infringement, patentability, validity, and freedom to operate. Shandon advises clients on the latest patent office guidance regarding subject matter eligibility of software-related technology. Shandon has also lectured in the areas of patent protection for computer software and copyright issues surrounding FOSS software licenses.

In his free time, Shandon develops software for his firm and others. Particularly, Shandon is an avid programmer in VBA, Autohotkey, Java, and SQL. Shandon creates and maintains a number of tools for office productivity and connectivity. Shandon really enjoys connecting with other programmers and engineers, including those with entrepreneurial spirit.

Shandon is a registered patent attorney before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the North Carolina bar. Shandon holds a J.D. degree from Campbell University, and a B.S. degree in Computer Science from North Carolina State University.
