Matthew E. Browning represents corporations, universities, and startups in protecting intellectual property rights in the U.S. and around the world.  Matt prepares and prosecutes patent applications in various technical areas including computer science, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. Representative technologies include artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics and autonomous vehicles, Internet of things (IoT), cloud computing, embedded systems, semiconductor devices and processes, and medical devices.

Matt counsels clients regarding the strategic development of patent portfolios, infringement/non-infringement, patentability, validity, and freedom to operate.  Matt advises clients on the latest patent office guidance regarding subject matter eligibility of software-related technology.  Matt also provides guidance on intellectual property in government contracts.

Matt is admitted to the bars of North Carolina, California, and Texas, and he is registered to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office.  Matt worked as a satellite systems engineer before attending law school.  Matt earned his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University and his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.
